PRAYER LIFE

Prayer is another way we respond to God who loved us first. As His children, we desire to live as God has asked. In order to know God and His specific plan for our lives, we must take time to pray, that is to talk, listen and be with God and His Family, the Church. Praying is essential for growing as a Child of God in the Family of God.

A life without prayer is like a life without breath.

During the Communion Year 1the child will:

1. Attend Mass on Sunday and holy days of obligation.

2. Realize that quiet times of listening help us to grow in our knowledge and love for God.  Prayer is a vital and personal relationship with God, who loves us. (CCC 2558)

3. The memorization of basic prayers offers an essential support to the life of prayer, yet it is also important to help students savour their meaning. (CCC 2688) Children should be able to recite the following: New prayers in bold

5. Have experienced prayer in a spontaneous way: with Scripture, with song, with gestures, with spontaneous words, reflection and silence.

6. Begin and end each day with prayer. Bring the help of prayer into everyday situations. (CCC 2660)

7. Recognize the church as God’s special dwelling where His Family gathers. Know that Jesus is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament kept in the tabernacle. This the reason for genuflection, reverence and silence in church.
