The Lord's Prayer - "Our Father"

Luke and Matthew's Texts (2759)
When a disciple said, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples" (Lk 11:1), Jesus gave us the Our Father. Luke presents a brief text of five petitions (11:2-4) and Matthew gives seven petitions (6:9-13). The Church's liturgical Tradition follows Matthew:
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Later, a doxology was added "For yours are the power and the glory forever" (Didache) and "the kingdom" (Apostolic Constitutions).
